Camp Near Ripley Missippi 
Oct 9th 1862            Dear Wife 
I Sit down to write you a few lines to 
let you Know where I am I Rec,d your 
letter yesterday dated Sep,t 26th But I have 
not time or paper to write mutch now 
we had a Battle at Crinth on the 4th 
and we whiped the Rebels out and we 
are following them up; we are now near 
Ripley Miss and I Expect we will 
go on to Holly Spring 25 miles 
further and fight the Rebels there if 
they Should make a Stand two of the 
Tigers were wounded at Corinth Rob,t 
Graham and William Downie both 
wounded in the Shoulder; neither not 
Dangerously none of our Co was Killed 
I will Send this with Robert [crossed out] [illegible] as I 
have no Envelop here Tell Hariet I 
cannot write any to her this time; I 
Rec,d a letter from Sarah McLean the 
Same time I did yours She Said ther 
family was well and that Hariet 
        had gone to Wisconsin 
     I only write this to let you know 
that I was not hurt in the Battle 
at Corinth I Shall write when 
I get [illegible] more of the peticulars 
So do not be uneasy if you do not get 
letters very Regular for Sometime to come 
But I wish you to write Regularly 
The Mail Carrier is going to Start Back to 
Corinth in a few minutes with the Mail 
[illegible] letter for this time 
write Soon Direct to Corinth as before
