Thomas writes to his wife about his concern for her ill health as well as the way that people back home treat her. Thomas also informs his wife that his brother William was taken prisoner and paroled in Nashville and Thomas is unsure of his brother's whereabouts now. Thomas is convinced that the war will not last much longer because in his experience, the Confederate force will not back down until the North is bankrupt, and the North will have to compromise.
