Thomas writes to his wife to tell her that he is uncertain of where he is going next, what he will be doing, and how long he will be there. He speaks briefly about his family and tells his wife that there was a snowstorm several days ago. Thomas equates the current weather in Corinth with the weather that he experienced at home around the same time. Thomas is owed four months' pay and is unsure of when he will receive it.
