Wis Vol Head Quarters 18th Reg Camp Near Corinth Nov 2nd 1862 Dear Wife I Rec,d your letter this Morning dated Oct 26th and was verry glad to hear that you and the Rest of the folks was well I Re,cd a few lines from you three days ago dated Oct 16th mailed at Hockley we are now under Marching orders with our KnapSacks and Tents all packed and awaiting the orders to Start So I am Stealing thes few minutes to write to you: I do not Know where we are going But we have Six days Rations to take with us we may be gone a week or ten days and we may not be gone So long though you must not be uneasy if you do not get a letter as Early as common from me Tell Mother and John that I was glad to Receive their letter and I will write to them again when I get time I have not time to write mutch news this morning [illegible] So you must Excuse a Short letter this time; also tell Hariet to write too and I will write more in my next I have not Rec,d any letters from Sarah or Susan Since I wrote to you before All the Badax Boys are as well as usual I have told Ike Odell to write to his folks So Often that I have poor incouragement to tell him any more you cannot Brag on having all the cold weather in Wis for we had a Snow Storm here the 25th of Oct with about an inch and a half of snow and Several days of Blustry cold weather but it cleared up and we are having nice pleasant weather again with Some appearance of Rain today; you must take Extreme Care of your health and be a good girl perhaps ther is Better times coming One year ago to day I was cutting wood on the River and the weather was pleasant mutch like it is here to day we was mustered for pay again last friday we have not been paid yet there is four months pay due us the last day of Oct I dont know when we will get paid they have been Rather Careless about paying the Soldiers this fall but I think we will get it before a great while I must Bring my letter to a close write Soon Direct as before So Good Bye I dont know whether T.J.Davis you can Read this or not L.M.Davis after it gets cold
