Vol Camp Near Grand Junction Tennessee Nov 23rd (1862) Dear Lucinda I again Sit down to write you a few lines to [crossed out] [illegible] inform you that I am as well as usual and hope this may find you well; I Recd a letter from you last Night dated Nov 9th, Conveying the Intelligence that another Badger of the female persuasion had Emigrated to Wisconsin but I had got the news nearly a week before in one of Robert [illegible] letters So you See it did not Surprise me much; though I was glad to learn that you was doing well; You wished me to Send a name for the, [Gehal?] I dont hardly know what to Say about it for it Seems Rather Small Business to Engage in yet, I guess I had better wait a while and See if it will grow Big Enough to be worth Sending a name to [crossed out] [illegible] So far; it would Scarcly understand its name yet awhile any way dont you think I make a Regular Spread Eagle of myself with the Idea of being called; dad, when I get home and intertain Immaginary Ideas of being a man of a family; Well does the girl call you, Ma, yet; I immagin I hear it Say So; Tell it not to cry after me for I will be at home one of these days Mrs. Smith it was good looking but did not wish to tell you so lest it would make you proud. I Supose; that was a Sly way She took to flatter me though I think I will get over it for I,m Tough; Well I Sup ose that is Enough about the Baby for this time; we are Still here at Grand Junction yet and I don't have any Idea how long we will Remain here or how Soon we will leave we have a large Body of Troops here Enough I suppose to of Rebels Lick any force ^ in this part of the confederacy the is so mutch Said and talked of about the war that I Almost dis like to write anything about it And I hope how Soon we may have no war to be talked of; As to the Honors of war they have no charms for me farther than doing my duty for the good of my country; I almost think this [crossed out] [illegible] was is curse put upon the people for the wickedness of the Nation, at least thousands are being punished by it I have Some hopes that the war may be Settled this winter; I never allow myself to get the Blues Excep the Red White & Blue and Sometime that Runs to a low Ebb we are having a pretty good time here The weather pleasant and Appears Healthy we are beginning to have heavy frosts cold nights Ice will freeze [crossed out] [at] on pudales at night bout the thickness of window glass but it all melts again before noon the boys are generally in pretty good health Ben Greenman is in the Hospital at Jefferson Barricks ten miles Below St, Louis I got a letter from him the other day he Said he was not getting any better Jim Williams has been Sent North Since we left Corinth; I Rec,d a letter from Brother william [crossed out] [illegible] yesterday he is in Benton Baricks St Louis he is a paroled prisoner he was taken prisoner at the Battle of Perryville K.Y. on the 8th of October he Said he was well, I wish you would Send me a half Dollars worth of Letter Stamps if you can get them handy I cant get them here only as I happen on Individuals has had them Sent to them I have used a Dollars worth Since I left Bolivar Besides what you have Sent me; I have over 60, old letters in my KnapSack and have Sent away and Burnt up as many more Since I have been down here; I will will Send some cotton Just as I pulled it out of the pod Give my Respects to Hariet and Mrs Smith and your Mothers folks; tell your Mother and John I will try and Answer their Letter in my Next Yors as Ever T.J.Davis Lucinda M Davis
