Hollysprings, Miss., December 29th 1862 Mr. Lincoln & Co I Recd a letter from you yesterday Dated December 13th the last one I Recd before this was dated Dec 1st So I guess there is one lost that you have wrote I am as well as usual and was glad to learn that you was well we are Still here at Holley Springs but I dont know how long we Shall Remain here as things Seem Rather unsettled at at this time; I Re,cd a letter from Jabe Yesterday it was the Same date of yours he was at Memphis Tenn he Said he was well he Said he was getting tired of the War and wanted it to close So he could go home again he Said he had Just Rec,d a letter from Home and that he heard that he had another Niece in Wis; Christmas has come and past but I did not See anything that Reminded me that it was Christmas Except Occasionally I would hear Some one Repeat the words I wish you a [crossed out] [happy] Merry Christmas. I did not hear the the Jingling of Sleigh Bells or ^ merry laugh of the Belle,s and Beau,s Enjoying their Christmas Sleigh Ride, nor did I see the young Bouyant hearts of the fun loving public as usual assemble at the Dancing Hall to Shake the fantastic toe with the Music of the Violin though the Niggers had a Jollification Dance up Town at Night in honor I Supose of Massa Linkums Proclimation but I did not feel Enough interested on that important occasion we have verry nice weather for this time a [crossed out] [f] year it hardly Seems as though it is winter though it makes it that mutch better for Military Business we have not had mutch Rain yet but we may soon begin to look for the Rainy Season and then we may look out for muddy Roads and Slow [crossed out] [illegible] and hard traveling for the Army We have just Rec,d Orders to March at, 2.Oclock this afternoon So I will not have time to write as mutch as I intended to The Boys I Believe are all in Tolerable good health at this time Ed, Crandal got a letter yesterday which informed him that Sarah one of the other girls was Sick with the Dyptherea I dont know where we are going to March to but I think we are going to Grand Junction when you write Direct to Cairo Ill,s and they will [crossed out] [go] come Straight to the Regt no matter where we are I must close and go to packing my Knap Sack O I forgot.
