CAMP TROWBRIDGE Milwaukee March 17th 1862 Dear Wife I Received your letter Last friday evening and [crossed out] [was] was glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well but Sorry to hear that you had been afflicted with a bad cold I have been [illegible] Reasonably well Since I came back; untill a few days Since I have had quite a bad cold and to day I feel quite unwell But I think by taking good care of myself I will Soon get rid of it you must be careful and not Expose your Self to colds Burnett is going to Start home to day So I will Send this By him I Shall not come home this time for it is too Expensive for the Short time that I would be allowed to Stay we have orders to leave for St, Louis on the 27th of this month; I wrote to you that I had Rec,d Some letters from Ills and would Send you one but I forgot it when I done up the letter I have Rec,d two more Since I wrote to you I got one from Brother Isaac at Leavenworth and one from my Sister in Illiois I will try to Send them to you this time two from My Sister and one from Brother Ike and one from David Ingersoll Brother William is in St, Louis perhaps I may have a chance to See him when I get there; you must [crossed out] [try] [?] be a good girl and try and do yourself all the good you can; go to School all you can Learn your grammar well Study Dictionary and proper Practice writing and using good ^ Language Practice Originality By Studying and [crossed out] [and] writing compostions of your own Learn to write peices well and correctly even on Subjects of little importance; write long letters to me; if you do not have verry mutch News to write Originate Something from your own Resourse composing Something on Some good Subject that most Interests you And try to take pride in your own merits E. Forsyth Returned here this morning he is not verry rugged yet but he Says that he is improving fast; I Supose it is un nesessary to write about the doings of our Regiment as Burnett will tell all the peticulars I Sent that letter to Jabe but have not Received any Answer from him, [illegible] there was two of my cousins in the Battle of fort henry and fort Donaldson they were from Illinois and and quite number of friends and acquaintences; I believe I Shall not write any more this time So good Bye for [illegible] this time write Soon; tell me if you tried to get any money from the county Thomas J.
