Davis writes to his brother and sister about the recent campaign that he's been on through Tennessee and old friends that he has ran into. He also describes the movements of thousands of Confederate prisoners that he wishes could be taken north at this time. Davis does not believe that the Union can be reestablished after the war and thinks that the South is much stronger than people believe and that the war will only end if the North either compromises or recognizes southern independence. Davis sincerely hopes that his prediction is incorrect.
