Memphis Argus Newspaper Article : Date Unknown
The Memphis Argus newspaper is reporting on a fight that involved a train carrying General Sherman and his men near Collierville. The train carrying Union soldiers was fired upon by hidden Confederate forces, and a battle commenced after Union soldiers filed out of the train and formed a battle line behind makeshift stockades. General Anthony came to the aid of General Sherman, and Union forces were able to drive Confederate forces back with minimal losses. The bridges and telegraph lines that were damaged during the battle were quickly repaired.
