Davis is doing well and enjoying the warmer weather of spring that is present in the South. There are six months' pay due to him at the end of the month and he's hoping that he will see that pay soon. His regiment has moved sixty miles north of Vickburg to a rich area of the South, and he was informed that Lucinda's mother lost her land. Davis is worried that he was too harsh when he corrected his wife's grammar in a recent letter, and is sending a copy of his sister's letter so that she can see more proper writing than Davis's example.
