Providence La, March 2nd 1863 Dear Lucinda I Rec,d a letter from you to day Dated Feb 15 & 17th I was Sorry to Learn that you and the baby was unwell but I hope this may find you Both well again I am as well as common I wrote a letter to you Several days ago and when I had finished it I put it in my Book until the shower ceased (as it was Raing at the time) Before I put it in the Office and I forgot it and did not Know but that it had gone until I found the letter in my Book this morning So I thought I would write this little Sheet and put it in the old letter; I Recd a letter from, Bell Ingersoll this morning dated Feb 15th She wrote that little Charlie was well David Ingersoll has got his Discharge and gone back home, War. Business Soon used him up he was Dis charged on account of his Broken Arm which got too lame for use little Charlie Says he wants me to play off Sick and get Discharged and come home and See him It looks hard that Mr Smith must get up from a sick bed and Return to his Regiment, if I thought my life was indangered by it; if I were he Should not Started; [crossed out] [we] It is very nice weather here to day clear warm and pleas ent mutch like a may day in Wis is So warm that it gives me the Spring fever I have not heard from Jabe Since I left Vicksburg I did not Answer Sarah McLain letter you Spoke of until last week, She has perhaps got it By this time I partly neglected it and partly had no time to write we Musted for pay again day before yesterday uncle sam Owes us Six months pay again But I don't Know when we will get any of it I Believe I have nothing new to write to day the Boys I Believe are all well the mail will soon go out So I must close and try to get this one in the office Excuse haste and write soon Yours as Ever Thos J.Davis Lucie.
