[crossed out] [Lake] Lake Providence, La, April 1st 1863 I Endevor to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well [crossed out] [as] and hope this may find you the Same I Recd a letter from you to day dated March , 15th I had been looking u for a letter from you for Severeral days or I wo^ld have wrote 3 or 4 days Sooner; : I Recd a letter to day from Brother Isaac and his wife and Ida Snyder & Belle Ingersoll; David Ingersolls sisters I will Send you the letters; you complain that [crossed out] [illegible] my letters do not come Regular: I find that your letters do not come So Regular here as they did when I was at Corinth and are more than as long again in getting here; Old Mr Moody got back to the Regiment to day he looks quite well ; Capt Layne came to us at Moscow Tenn on the 10th of Jan,y; I think I wrote to you of his Return before; he has been unwell for Sometime but is getting better the rest of the Boys are all well, we have had less Sickness in our company the past two months than we have had the Same length of time Since we have been South; I hope it m may continue through the Sum^er; the weather is not So warm now as it was two weeks ago; we had a heavy wind and rain Storm on the night of the 29th; it injured Several Steamboats that were lying here; Blowing off their chimneys and Stoving in their wheel houses and doing other damage. This is a verry nice clear Cool pleasent day; I hope this Spring will be as cool as last Spring was though there was warmer weather in the Summer than I wish to See again This is the first day of April the day for all fools and the Boys are making great Sport over it by making April fools of Each other in Every conceiveble way; I Sent you ten Dollars to you a little over two weeks ago in a letter I thought if I did not want to Risk mutch at a time; there is five months pay Due us now, [crossed out] [illegible] There is talk that we wil be paid again Soon and that we will get four months pay the next payment but I do not look for it until it comes around . there is not mutch doing [crossed out] [her] in the Army here at present Excepting making preparations to Reduce Vicksburg but I do not think our generals will undertake to carry the place by Storm; I would like to See the place leveled to the Earth; I got a letter from Little [crossed out] [illegible] John Graham the other day he wrote that he had been Sick in the hospital a few days but was better the 25th is at Columbus yet; I have not had a letter from Jabe Since I left Vicksburg April 2nd I will close my letter, I have nothing more of Importance to write to day.
