April 10th 1863 Dear Wife I Rec,d a letter from you three or four days ago dated March 25th and was glad to hear that you wa well, I am as well as usual; the wether continues about the Same as when I last wrote; I rec,d a letter from Brother William the Same time I Rec,d yours he had got back to his Reg,t at Murfreesboro Tenn____ he wrote that he was well and that the army there was Generally in good health and Spirits I Rec,d a letter from Burnett yesterd dated 30th [illegible] he wrote that his family was well with the Exception of colds; he made considerable appologies for not writing before; we had a Review day before yesterday Gen, Thomas the Agutant Gen; of the United States was here and we had Several Speeches etc; there is to be two Nigger Reg,ts Raised here; by his order, and comissions given to white men [crossed out] [out of] from among the Soldiers here for the Nigger Officers; Robert Mc and Isaac Newell handed in their names for Subject,s for commission but dont know yet whether either will be successful As for myself I did not make an aplicaton for any office There is plenty of Niggers in this vicinity and I think that two Reg,ts can be Easily Raised at this Point; Gen: Thos Says those Negros that will not make Soldiers will be put on the Evacuated Plantations here and be allowed to Cultivate them for their own Support ___________________ We Drew four months pay day before yesterday; Robert Ed; Crandall and myself is Starting a package of money home to day by Express it is Directed to Roberts wife She will give you yours; I Sent Sixty Dollars; you will pay your part of the Express fees when you get the money. I will Send you Ten Dollars more in this letter; I have not yet heard from the Ten Dollars I Sent you the other pay day; but I hope you Rec,d it; the Badax Boys are all well; we Expect to have Gen Muster to day at Ten oclock and I have not time to write a long letter though there is no Important news Since I last wrote we are kept So busy Drilling and guarding that I e Scarc^ly have time to Answer all letters I Receive I will close this Epistle hoping it may find you well write Often as convenient and give me the news Do the Best you can and be a good Girl ______________________ Nothing more this time So Good Bye I Remain Yours as Ever Thos.
