Camp, Near Vicksburg June 18th 1863 Dear wife I Sit down this morning to write you a few lines to let you Know that I am well and hope This will find you the Same ;I have not Rec,d any letter from you Since I last wrote; we had quite a large mail last night but I did not get any letters at all the last Letter I got from you was dated 28th of May; I Shall certainly get one from you the Next mail Jabez and Levi Noble was up here to our Regt last Sunday Jabe had been unwell for Sometime. but he is getting Stout again Levi looks hearty and is as full of gas as ever _____________ we are Still where we was when I last wrote vicksburg is not taken yet but it is about as good as taken; for we have got them in there, and they cant get out and as Soon as their grub runs out they will be compelled to Surrender Our Skirmishers and the Rebel Skirmishers talk to Each every night Sometimes our men and the Rebels will meet between the two lines and talk as long as they will and then Return each to his place, Night before last as we was out on the Skirmish line we hollowed over to the Rebs and told them to come over and have a chat and we would let them go back again; Several of them come over to our company and talked a couple of hours and then Returned to their fort; they said we had them tight in there; that they could not get out; nor we could not get in there; they Said if we would Remain as we are; that they must Surrender when their provision is consumed; tis one month to day Since they were driven into their works; So they have one month less provision now than when we drove them in the Badax boys are all well; the wether is pleasant not So warm a week ago; we have been having Some good rains we however may look hot weather mostly untill September the time Seams to pass Rapidly and the Summer will soon pass if we lay in camp I have nothing more at this time to write; write Soon and Often Yours as Ever T.J.
