(1863 Camp; Near; Vicksburg June 24 Dear Wife I Sit down on my Bunk this Evening to write you a few lines to let you know that I am as well as usual I Rec,d a letter from you last night Dated [crossed out] [Ma] June 7th&10th I was Sorry to hear that you and the Baby was Sick but I hope before this Reaches you that you both will be well again the wether continues pleasant not cool neither verry hot; the boys are all tolerable well; Fosters Battery is a good fighting Battery and do good Execution for they have good Guns Foster was wounded and has gone home Foster is a verry good fighting man but no doubt there is thousands in the army that are Just as good as he we are Still in our old position Vicksburg has not Surrendered yet but our cannons are Battering away at the Rebs every day; it is beyond our knowledge how mutch provision they have; but they must certainly give up Sooner or later and the Sooner the better The Battery boys are all well Jabe; Levi; Calvin and ; E; Caulkins were up here the other day we had a nice rain last night; I have not had any letters from neither Sarah Susan or Hariet for Sometime I also wrote to James[?] about two months ago and have Rec,d no Answer from him I have Recd but few letters lately I will close for this time; we will get paid two months pay in a day or two Yours as Ever T.J.
