Mail has been stopped around Vicksburg and Davis has not received mail from his wife since the 16th. Memphis has been repaired and Davis thinks it is a rather nice looking town. Davis's regiment has received a new Stand of Colors and the weather is starting to turn cooler. Davis anticipates that they will join General Rosencrans at Chattanooga soon. Lucinda's brother William was injured in Rosencrans corps, but Davis's regiment is in good health. Davis doesn't anticipate that any more furloughs will be granted and doesn't think that he will get one any time soon.
