Davis is still located at Memphis and it is unclear if he will be moving on to Chattanooga or moving back to Vicksburg. He prefers Memphis because they get mail quicker here than in Vicksburg. In response to Lucinda telling him how much she weighs, Davis says he must weigh around 144 pounds. He is also not sure that he will get a furlough as he and Lucinda approach their two year anniversary. Three months' pay is owed to him and he believes that he will receive two months' pay in a week's time.
