Wis vols Memphis Tenn Oct 4th 1863 Dear Wife I sit down this morning to write a few lines Before we leave here my health is about as usual we have orders to be ready to get on the cars this evening preparatory to going to Corinth I Recd Two letters from you Since I wrote one dated Aug 25th and the other Sept 9th they had been [half of line illegible] another letter from you today as news boys are pedling papers in camp and say that a large mail come down the River but has not been distributed yet the next time you hear from me I will proably be at Corinth or between there and Chattanooga the wether is cold and windy last night was rather too cool for comfort, I got a letter from Brother Isaac he wrote the the folks were well I have no news to write today of Interest Thos Deckers wife started home from [here?] yesterday Evening she will probably get home by the middle of the week; one year ago today [crossed out] [illegible] We finished the battle of Corinth a day that will long be remembered by the 18th Two years ago day after tomorrow we was Sworn to live to live together But we have not done mutch of it yet; I Expect you are begining to have Some cool days in Wis by this time you must Excuse this pencil writing for I lost my pen and all the other boys are using theirs So I thought I would write a few lines with a pencil I dont hear any thing more about furloughs I Supose they are played out; So you must not look for me Soon When you write Direct your letter to Memphis Tenn I have nothing more to write at present I will write again when I Receive a letter from you I Remain Truly Yours as Ever Thos.
