Davis has been on the move since writing his last letter on the fourth. His regiment arrived in Corinth on the fifth and marched to Glendale on the next day. Davis is troubled by Rheumatism and Dyspepsia, and the cold weather is exacerbating his condition. His regiment is tasked with repairing the railroad from Glendale to Chattanooga in order to open a supply line to Rosencrans. While writing his letter, Davis receives a letter from Lucinda telling him that Sylvia is eleven months old, and he muses that she should be walking soon. His hopes for a furlough are dashed unless he fakes being sick to obtain a sick furlough. The mail will come quicker to him at Glendale than at Vicksburg, but slower than last summer at Corinth. Davis hasn't heard from William since before the battle of Chickamauga, but heard that his division was cut up and scattered, and he is anxious to hear if William is okay.
