Near Corinth Miss May 22nd 1862 Dear wife I again Endeavor to write you a few lines to let you know that I am Still in the land of the living and [crossed out] injoying usual health and I hope this may find you well I have not Rec,d but one letter from you in answer to letters that I have wrote to you Since I have been here that one was dated April 28th I have wrote to you nearly every week Since I have been here I want you to write often whether you get any Letters from me or not Robert Mc got a letter from his wife night before last and Alvin Caulkins got one from his folks and So did Walt Odell, but I didn,t [illegible] May 24th 1862 I Started this letter two days ag but I had to Stop writing to go out on picket and did not get back until last night we are within about three miles of Corinth Our forces are Building Breast works on the outside of the Rebels works I think our generals are trying [illegible] Breast works Clear around Corinth and cut off all their Rail Roads and then Starve them out or make them attack us in our own fortifications I that we may manage to trap the whole Caboodle of the here, with out having to follow them any further for I would like to be taken back farher north before the weather gets too hot is there ^ a great number of the northern Soldiers getting Sick now Several of our company are in the hospittal now Walt and Ike Odell are both Sick but not dangerous neither of them in hospital Forsyth is not well yet Levi Allen is in the hospital So is Jim Williams and John Kingston William Hunter Died day before yesterday I think that Burnett will go home before long he has not been able for duty mutch of the time Since we have been here; we have not got paid off yet but I think we will be in a few days if I get my money I will Send the most of it [crossed out] home with Burnett if he goes and my watch. also I dont want you to get uneasy about me getting Sick for I intend to take as good care of myself as I can Alvin Caulkins Stands it first rate Better than most of the men, a fellow from 8th wis Reg,t was over here yesterday he Said Seal,s [?] Soninlaw Henry Allen Received a flesh wound in the Side a few days ago in Skirmish with the Rebel pickets the wound is not dangersous, he Said that the rest of the Badax boys in 8th was all well; I have not had a chance to visit them yet we have not heard anything from [illegible] our boys that was taken prisoners only we heard that they were all in Memphis where I Supose they Still Remain under the guardianship of Rebeld[illegible] [crossed out] the vegitation here now looks like midsummer in the north Peaches and Apples are now about half grown and the Orchards are well loaded with them I we [crossed out] only had Such Orchards in, Ills and Wisconsin then fruit would be a letter cheap; Ed Crandall got ^ from Cal [?] Hagerman a few days ago he wrote to all the Badax boys he Said that he heard that we was in the fight at Pittsburg Landing he wanted the boys to write to him and tell him all about the fight I dont know as you can Read this I have a poor pen and and I have to Sit on the ground and write on my Knee; Nothing More this time But be a good Girl Thomas J.
