C 18th Regt Wis; Vols [crossed out] [illegible] Inka Miss Oct 20th 1863 Dear Wife I take my pencil this morning to write you a few lines in answer to your letter of 7th Inst that I Recd yesterday We are now on the march and at Inka We will leave here to day at 11 Oclock and march out as far as Bear Creek; Seven miles from this place Bear Creek is as far out the Cars Run at present; I dont know how far East we will go; there is talk however that we will go through to Chattanooga But I dont mutch Believe that we will go so far as that We was paid two months pay day before yesterday but I will not Send any money [home?] at present or untill I hear from what I [crossed out] [illegible] last Sent and I may not Send any until next pay day my health is Some better than when I last wrote to you; thirteen months ago to day I was in Inka before; that was the day after the Battle; and it has changed hands between the Rebels and unionists Several times since then; you must Excuse a Short letter to day as I have but little time to write to day I will try and make it all up some other time the boys are all Improving in health Slowly that has been sick; Ed Crandall is healthier now than he has been Since he has been in the Service; Alvin got a letter from E. Caulkins the other day and Ed Crandall bot one from C: Hagerman at the same time the Battery was at [crossed out] [illegible][Brathear?] City La and the health of the Boys Improving the wether is cool and pleasent to day with some appearance of Rain though we had a heavy rain last night I will write again when we stop for a few days I Remain Your as Ever Thos.
