Davis's regiment is now in Bear Creek where a bridge will have to be built in order to get other rail cars through. Davis is sending fifty dollars in the mail for Lucinda, and is troubled by stomach problems and nervousness. He thinks that he will come through the war alright, and his time in the army is more than half over. He does not want Lucinda to worry about him.
