Dear Lucinda 
I Recd a few lines; I do not call it letter, this 
morning I was verry Anxious to hear from you 
for I had not had a letter from you for [illegible] only 
two weeks; and when I Recd Such an Insignif 
icant thing it [illegible] of patience  
that I Burned it as soon as I rec,d it and was anxious  
to hear from [illegible] that I Expressed 
on the 15th of Sept [illegible] but you do not [illegible] 
on it at all; whether [illegible] got through or not [illegible] 
do not [illegible] say about it for I think it will 
go through; we are now at Cherokee

     Winchester Tenn: Nov 12th 1863 
        Well Lucinda after so long a time 
I will now finish my letter; my health 
is considerable better than it was when I 
last wrote; I have Recd two letters from you 
Since I have had a chance to Send you any 
the last one was dated 18th & 22nd of Oct 
we have had a long andweary march we 
crossed the Tenn River the last day of Oct 
and we arrived here at Winchester last night  
and we will march again this afternoon 
and I have not time to write a long letter 
[crossed out word] Winchester is in middle Tenn about 75  
miles from Chattanooga and about 85 miles 
South of Nashville I dont Know Exactly where 
we will march from here; I Recd a letter from 
Brother william a few days ago [crossed out word] I will send 
it to you; you Said that Hartwell Allen 
wanted to Borrow Some money and you wanted 
to know what I thought about it; I wrote to 
you sometime ago not to loan money; and 
that is all I have to say about it; 
I have been detailed into our Division 
Pioneer corps; when you write Direct your 
letters to Pioneer [crossed out word] Corps; 2nd Div: 
17th A.C. I may Remain in this Corps until 
my time is out our Business is to fix roads 
and Build fortifications etc when we stop and 
get into camp I will write you a longer letter 
it has been three weeks Since I have sent you 
a letter before I Sent you fifty Dollars from 
Inka I Supose you have probably got it by this 
time: in your last letter you said you had Recd 
the money I sent; but did not say when it was
