Davis writes to Lucinda and informs her that his health is still improving, however the Dyspepsia and a toothache are still giving him trouble. He suspects that his division will soon be heading to Huntsville where they will be stationed along the railroad for the rest of winter. Davis writes that in regards to money he is willing to assist Lucinda's Mother and John, as well as requests Lucinda talk to Robert McMichael about taxes on the land. He insists Lucinda must keep enough money for herself to be comfortable, and that he hopes to live many happy days with her after the war. In a final portion of the letter dated December 23, Davis writes from Stevenson, Alabama. He details that they left Bridgeport and are waiting to cross the Duck River on their way to Huntsville. He also explains the reasoning behind why he left his Company for the Pioneer Corps.
