Davis writes Lucinda detailing that he is in very good health and is pleased Lucinda received the gold pen he sent her. He notes that the Corps is now in Whitesburg located on the Tennessee River south of Huntsville. In Whitesburg, Davis writes the men have built several small boats and fortifications. Davis notes that the Rebels have a fort located on the opposite side of the river leading to interactions between the two parties. Davis writes that an agreement was made that neither side would continue shooting across the river, and therefore no one was hurt. Davis details that Robert McMichael and his recruits were not in Huntsville when the Corps was last there, although when the Corps likely returns in a few days Davis suspects the recruits will have arrived. Davis writes that the Corps men may not be paid for another two months so he has not requested a furlough. He also notes that he can see the end and that he never wants to leave Lucinda for so long again.
