Feb 6th 1864 Well Lucinda as I cannot mail my letter until tomorrow I thought I would write a few more lines as I got a good lengthy letter from you; this is about 4 Oclock in the Evening and the wind Blows quite cold from the North and from appearance I would supose that the wether to day is quite cold in Wisconsin: and I immagin I See you Sitting close to the stove trying to keep your feet warm and keep Silvie from freezing; but I feel glad for you that the winter will soon be over and by the time another begins I hope to be at home where I can Share the cold and fireside with you perhaps in a Shanty of our own [crossed out] [Silvie] Little Silvie will be 15 months old day after tomorrow; and I Supose She will soon be runing alone I immagin that I see her now runing around [crossed out words] with her little curly flaxen hair and making a considerable noise; and getting into considerable mischief when She finds an oppertunity to do so And I supose she will be walking before I get home? We have a good house with a good fire place in it. to Stay in while we are here: I think we will remain in the vicinity of Huntsville until the begining of the Spring campaign I think we will Spend our time next Summer in Alabama and Georgia; I dont know whether our Reg.t (the 18th) is yet Sworn into the Veteran Service or not: it had not yet been mustered when I left Huntsville: I think the prospect of them getting a furlough this Spring is doubtful and you see if they do go I will be left here because I am not a veteran; I would like if the war would End before my time is out but I dont wish to stay any longer than my time; in the army; and when my time is out and I wish to come back to the army I can do so and make more money than I can by Enlisting again unless the war Ends by that time: well I am [illegible] sitting on the floor writing. my knee so I will close for the present – write soon I Remain Ever faithfull yours .. Good Bye Thos J Davis Lucie M Davis
