Davis writes to Lucinda and informs her that his health is quite good. He notes that Robert McMichael's recruits arrived at camp and that the Corps have arrived back at Huntsville. Davis also notes that he received letters from Sarah McLain and David Ingersoll. Furthermore, Davis writes that he has enlisted in the Veteran Service in part because he strongly believes the war will be over before his prior enlistment would end. He notes that he believes he could be discharged if the war does continue longer than he expects, and that he has been promised a continued place in the Pioneer Corps as long as it remains organized. Davis writes that he wishes Lucinda will meet him in Illinois in the Spring so he can see her.
