Pioneer Corps. 3rd Div 15th A.C. Huntsville Ala Feb 22nd 1864 Dear Lucinda I Sit down this pleasent afternoon to write you a few lines to let you know that I am in my usual health hoping this may find you well We are now repairing the Rail road between Huntsville and Decatur and we will probaby have the cars runing from Nashville to Huntsville via the Nashville and Decatur Road in a few weeks we have had considerable cold wether here for about a week but the wether has changed again; and to day it is so warm that I am sweating as I sit in my tent writing; I think we will have rain soon as the air seems so soft and heavy; I have not Rec,d a letter from you since I wrote before; but I thought I would write so that you would get a letter from me every week any way; The 18th has not yet been Mustered into the veteran Service but will probably be in a few days but I hardly think they will get home on furlough this Spring Feb 25th 64 Well Lucinda I will now finish my letter; I was called on duty while writing the above so I did not finish it; I Rec'd a letter from you on the 23rd Dated 7th and mailed 12th Inst I was verry glad to hear that you was still well I think I feel better this Spring than I have Since I came to Dixie but Still I am not as stout as I should wish to be I was at the Reg,t yester day Jim Kingston and John Chaney has got to the Reg,t Jim Kingston was sick with the measels but the wether is pleasent and with the propper attention he has I think he will soon get over them The officers were fixing to have the reg,t or the veterans Mustered they Still think they will get their furlough this Spring but I think it is yet Doubtful So you need not look for me until you see me coming; and do not be frighted if you do see me coming I Rec'd a letter yesterday at the Reg,t from Brother William he is at cleveland 40 miles east of Chatt, on the Knoxville R.R. his Reg,t has gone the veteran ticket and gone home; Will would not go the veteran so they put him into the 75th Ills Reg,t while the 57th went home on furlough he wrote that he was well and thought he could stand it the Remainder of his Term The wether continues warm and pleasent and leaves are begining put forth [illegible] that Spring is approaching; our Corps was paid last week and I collected part of the money I had standing out but I will not send any home until I know whether or not [crossed out word] I will go home this Spring; we got the Bridge finished that we was working at and we have moved 2 miles farther from Huntsville I see that some of the first veteran Reg;ts are Returning to the army: but those that left our Division furlough will not be back until about the 15th of March.
