Camp Near Corinth Miss. June, 2nd 1862 Dear Wife take I ^ great pleasure in Sitting down to write to you again I wrote a letter to you day before yesterday telling you that I had not Rec,d any letter from you So long that I was uneasy about you for fear that you was Sick, But night before last I Rec,d two letters from you which was truly welcom and I was verry glad to hear that you was well one of the letter was written the 18th. 19th of May the other one the 17th which Mrs. Burnett mailed in Ill,s She wrote that She had arrived Safe to her folks and that She found them all well I thought I would write you this letter for fear you would be uneasy about me when you got the last one I wrote thinking perhaps that your letters did not get here, we have Signed our pay Roll today the officers Say will be paid off to morrow the pay master and his body guard is here now, Burnett will probably Start home in a few days he will Stop in Illinois and go home with his wife I will probably Send you Some money by him and my watch and I will Send you [illegible] them notes that I have on Baker Whitney & Johnson; least I Should loose them; the Rebels left Corinth on double quick Badly panic Stricken and Scared half to death the yankees had too many big guns for them Corinth is quite a nice little place about half as large as LaCrope, the Inhabitants have all left the place Except two families they Burned Several Buildings together with the Depot [?] and quite a quantity of provisions Gen,s Pope, Buel, and Mitchell are in hot pursuit after the Rebels they have overtaken part of them and taken Some prisoners but I dont know how many I Seen Several Squads of them Brought in our Division has not been called out to pursue the Rebels yet; We had orders to day to prepare ourselves for a long March But whether we are going on South or not I cannot tell but I am inclined to think that is the calculation this is the 2nd day of June and the weather is getting Some warmer but it is not So hot here as I thought it would be though this is a great fruit country peaches are nearly grown and will be ripe by the first of July Plums & Cherries are ripe and the wheat fields begin to look yellow and will be ripe in a few days you Say Mrs Cleary is nearly Crazy about Henry he is taken prisoner and is at Memphis with the [crossed out] other prisoners that was taken and he will be compelled to Stay there untill we lick the Rebels or they are Exchanged for their prisoners in our hands; She might just as well Keep cool about it as to go crazy his life perhaps is just as Safe as if he was in our army; this paper is So greasy the ink will hardly Stick to it I dont know. as you can read it, if you cant let me, know and I will write you another one we have not had mutch rain here for two or three week it has been trying to rain to day but it cant rain So Easy as it could a month ago Walt Odell is getting a little better but he is quite Sick yet Ike Odell is Slowly getting well again I hear that E. Forsyth is getting better he is at the Hospital about ten miles back. Levi Allen was Sent away in a Boat a week ago to Some Hospital he may get Sent home; Alvin Caulkins is is as fat as a Bear; John Kingston was in the Hospital a couple of weeks but he has got about well an has come back to the Regiment again; Bill Downie is in the Hospital with a Sprained ankle; I am tired writing on this greasy paper So I will close for this time write Soon Direct your letter as you did before; be a good girl and take care of yourself and dont get the Blues Tell Mrs Mc that Robert is well and makes quite a good Soger So Nothing Else to add this time Thos.
