Davis writes to Lucinda noting that he is in good health. He details that he is still with the Regiment in Huntsville waiting to be mustered, and that all the boys are well except Will Cleary. Davis writes that even though he is enlisting, he does not intend to serve another full three years, and he continually hopes to get through the rest of his service without injury. Davis suspects he will arrive home on furlough either during the spring or after the spring campaign. He concludes by noting that General Sherman returned to Vicksburg from his raid in Mississippi.
