Huntsville Ala March 15th 1864 Dear Wife I Sit down this afternoon to write you in answer to two letters that I Rec'd from you yesterday one dated Feb 23rd and the other 28th the first I have Rec'd from you for three weeks and I was verry glad to hear that you was well but was sorry to hear that the Baby had been So Sick but I hope it will get over it and not have the Diptheria again: Diptheria is generally hard on [page torn] children; I am in as good health as [page torn] I am still with the Regt at Hunts[page torn] waiting to be mustered into the [page torn] the Mustering Officer has been sick [page torn] the Reason that we have not been mustered before this he is getting better now and we will probably be mustered this week the Boys in the Reg't are as well as usual Except Will Cleary he has been having a few chills I was Sorry to see that you was so mutch out of heart in referance to my ReEnlisting in the Army I know it looks like a long time and a hard road to travel; to Soldier three years longer but I dont intend that I shall serve three years longer: even if the war should last so long as that: I thought as long as I had Soldiered so long that I ought to get some pay for what I had done I See from Elisabeths letter that you sent me; that she thought I had [page torn] long enough for one man; [page torn] I hope after being lucky so far [page torn] I may get through Safe; but as [page torn] as that is concerned: life is uncer tain any place and we must run our chances: you wanted me to let you Know when I [crossed out word] Should be at home on furlough So you would Know when to look for me? That would be impossible for me to tell you though we will probably come home sometime this Spring if not this Spring we will come as soon as the Spring campaign is over. I think however we will come this Spring but dont disappoin yourself looking untill you see me coming: Robt Mc; has not got Back or the Regt yet: and probably he did not start when you thought he did; there is not mutch news here of importance: Sherman has Returned to Vicksburg from his raid into Mississippi: The Wether is Somewhat cooler to day than it [page torn] been for several days: but the [page torn] for frost is now about over [page torn] this Spring .
