Huntsville Ala Tuesday March 22nd 1864 Dear Wife It is with great pleasure that I once more have the privelige to write to you again: In answer to a letter I recd from you last night dated 9th inst and was glad to learn that you was well my health is as good as usual with the Exception that I have had a bad cold for a few days past but nothing serious the wether has been quite cool for several days and last night we had quite a snow Storm last night there was 4 or 5 inches of Snow on the ground this morning but it will be nearly all gone by night I think after this Squall is over we will not have any more cold wether this Spring; I am at the Reg,t in Huntsville the Reg,t was Msutered last Saturday and we Expect to be paid in a few days: but I dont know how soon the Pioneer Returned to Huntsville yesterday having finished the R.R. Bridges between here & Decatur I Rec'd two letters yesterday from bro William he was in the last fight at Dalton Ga but did not get hurt I also Rec'd a letter from David Ingersoll Notifying me that he was married and that the folks was all well: his letter was dated March 10th I have been here ever since the 2nd of this month I have not been doing duty but I believe I would rather have been out in the Country with the Corps [crossed out] [than] working a little than be lay around Town: though I have been Trading around a little trying to make as much money as I Spend We will probably start home about the last of this month if we go at all but affairs may be so arranged that we may not go this Spring at all: but I think the prospect is pretty good though you must not look until you see us coming You Seem to be considerably discouraged on account of my Re-Enlisting I hope however you will not think I will stay Three years longer for I dont mean to do it Even should the war continue but I dont intend to Desert Either I will get out honorably on account of my health; But as things are now I dont think I could do any better than to Stay in the army a while longer I Expected you would give me a good Scolding for Enlisting but I see you cannot Scold worth a cent but if you are mad when I go home I will [illegible] you out of it: I have thought Sometimes that probably it would be better for me not to go home this Spring for the boys Joke me considerably about my other furlough So I Supose I must be careful next time: I would like it well if it was so you could go to School the Ballance of the time I am in the Service; But probably Silvie will be too mutch in the way Well Lucinda I have not mutch news to write to day but if I come home this Spring I Expect I will make you tired with with hearing So mutch talk out of me and all this sort of thing; Robert McS Commission of first Lieutenant [illegible] to the Regt from Madison; a few days ago; J.H.Brightman a private in our Co got a Commission a few days ago as 2nd Lieut in the [illegible] Regt Wis vols Well I believe I have no more news this time tell Mother and John they must Excuse me this time I will write to them soon or Else come and tell them about it.
