Pioneer Corps 3rd Div 15th 1864 Huntsville Ala Sunday March 26th 1864 Dear Lucinda I Sit down this pleasent Sabbath evening to write you a few lines to let you know that I am in my usual health I have not Rec'd any letter from you since I last wrote but I will look for another letter tomorrow; The Pioneer Corps has Returned to Huntsville having finished the r.r. Bridges and I have come back to the Corps though both the corps and Regt are inTown not [page torn] than a quarter of a mile apart So I [page torn] to the Regt Every day if I choose [page torn] not Know how long the corps will remain in Town probably not long as we have orders to get ready for the Spring campaign; Gen Sherman & Gen McPherson arrived here yesterday and it is thought that a forward movement will be made Shortly The 48th & 59th Ind Regts that have been home on veteran furloughs are now on there way back marching through from Nashville to Huntsville on foot the left Nashville yesterday morning it will take them six or Seven days to march through we have no assurance when we will get to Start home though there is talk that we will be allowed to go when the Indiana Reg'ts get back; We have had quite rough wether for the past two weeks for this time of year until yesterday and to day the wether has been clear and pleasent and I think that Spring has now fairly commenced I Still tell you as I did before not [page torn] look for us home until you see [page torn] may have to go through the Spring [page torn]] before we get our furlough: I know that there have been Several of the boys writing home a month ago Stating that the Regts would be at home in a few days: I have have been in the army long Enough to learn a little Military and Regts as well as men must wait and let things take their regular course When we get ready to start home you will find it out soon enough So it is not neses sary to look on uncertainties; The veterans have not been paid yet and will probably not be for Several days; Now Lucinda I hope you will not think hard of me for Re enlisting although perhaps I may have done wrong but I studied the matter over thoroughly and it was for your good as well as my own that I done so; The more we Save during the war the better Start we will have when we set up Housekeeping [page torn] I thought I could not do better for [page torn] length of time neither do I believe [page torn] could Enjoy myself better at home with you; but then I Should have to be in the Spring and fall campaign this year any way and I think that will end most of the fighting; the war cannot always last it must [crossed out word] conclude [crossed out word] some way inside of two years you say that I should come home and let others go that have been at home: that would be all right I know but if they stay at home let them pay for it I was credited to Milwaukee as there was no one in the Town of Jefferson that I wished to shield from the Draft; Jas Lowrie wrote to me that I could have $125 Dollars if I would be credited to Jefferson but I think I can get more from Milwaukee (So let her want: if I dont) Wel Lucinda I have no great am't of news to write to day and hoping this may find you in the best of health and spirits: and [page torn] I may Ere long be permitted [page torn] you again and Spend a happy [page torn] your Society I bid you an affectionate Good Bye; T.J.
