Dear Sis 
I Endeavor this Evening to write you 
a Short Epistle in answer to your 
letter dated 13th Inst which I Recd 
two days ago I was glad to hear from 
you and to hear that you was felling 
So well: my health is tolerable good 
for me: the last letter I recd from 
you before this was dated March 30th 
So there must be one or two letters 
that you wrote that did not come 
through; :you write every time that 
you are anxious to Know when I am 
coming home: I have not yet given 
you mutch encouragement when I 
should be at home and wrote for you 
not to look for me for I do not wish 
to Keep you in suspense but I will 
surely gladly come when I can get 
the oppertunity to do so 
I recd a letter from Mother last night 
She wrote that She and the folks were all 
well She said She had rec'd a letter 
from you; and had answered it I also 
rec'd one from Elisabeth and Ike 
and Elisabeth spoke of getting a letter 
from you and She Said She had been 
waiting for a letter from me before she 
answered it but would soon answer 
it [crossed out word] as she did not get any from me 
The weather has been quite warm this 
week and vegitation is growing rapidly 
with alternate thunder Showers and 
Sun Shine  : Our Reg't was paid yester 
day that is: the veterans got their bounty 
of $1,7500 and the Regt will probably 
get their monthly pay before long perhaps 
before they go home [crossed out] [the] I will not 
send any money home at present until 
I find out whether we get furloughs or 
not this Spring: The 4th Minn; Reg't 
will be back here sometime next 
month and it is said we will go when 
they return: but I dont know that: 
that is the case and if true it will be 
June before we get away from here 
So dont look for us until you Know 
we are on the road: the 3rd Brigade of 
our Div will go from here to Decatur 
tomorrow and the other two Brigades 
will probably remain here for sometime 
at least that is the present impressions 
we are kept quite buisy at work now 
in town building fortifications and 
Ordinance and commissary buildings 
So I dont get mutch time to write 
I dont work hard however for I have 
learned like many other Soldiers to 
Shirk or play off pretty effectually  
I will look for another letter from 
you in a day or two and will  
try and write more next time
