Davis writes to Lucinda noting that his injury is getting better, although he is still unable to work. He details that he has not been in contact with the Regiment since they left for Whitesburg, however he was informed that Robert McMichael has returned. Davis writes they were expecting a raid from the Rebels' Lieutenant General Forrest, although he changed his course's direction and did not come. Davis details that the Veterans will return from their furlough soon, and unless he is kept for an emergency, he will start home the first of June and arrive about the tenth. He notes that he received a letter from cousins in Illinois. Davis writes that in the last week they have experienced the heaviest fighting of the war so far. He details that Commanding General Grant has had success along the Potomac River, and he believes that Richmond will change owners as a result. Davis also writes that General Sherman is pushing rebel lines in Dalton, Georgia, and that they expect to hear victory from both fronts in order to tip the war in the Union's favor.
