Chattanooga Tenn Sunday June 26th 1864 I sit down this Sunday evening to write you a short Epistle to let you Know that I am Still in Dixie my health is better than when I last wrote to you but still I have not done any duty yet; Our Divn left Huntsville last wednesday morning to march through to this place but I was not able to march so I Staid at huntsvillle until Thursday evening and got on the Cars and got here [crossed out] [Th] [crossed out] [Thurs] friday forenoon The Division camped ten miles the other side of Stevenson last night and will get here about next wednesday: they are having verry warm weather for the march [crossed out word] and I learn from some men that come in on the cars from the Division last night that there had been ten or twelve men sun struck Since they left Huntsville: I am glad that I did not attempt to march with the division for I am quite sure I would have fizzled out before this time: I have not rec'd a letter from you since I last wrote and [crossed out] [I] I not get any until the Div gets here; the last letter I rec'd from you was dated 5th of this month so I will Expect two when the Div comes up There is no news of great Interest from the front for a few days; there was some heavy fighting in Shermans Army on the 18 19 & 20th of this month and many of the wounded have been sent here and to Nashville; Our Div will probably go on to Marietta Ga when they get here but I will write to you again before we leave here: it is so warm that have to stop and wipe the sweat off my face every few minutes and my hand is so unsteady that I dont know as you can read this: it rained a little about noon but the sun has come out but again and I think it will rain again to night: I rec'd a letter from Bro Will the other day he was well and in the rifle pits in front of the rebs and his reg't has since been in two or three fights but I dont here anything about him; I had a letter from D Ingersoll a few days ago he said the folks was well; you must Excuse a short letter to day and when I get a letter from you and I can write better I will write more; I wrote to you the last time that I sent you Two hundred Dollars | You will get it of Lincoln in Viroqua; Well my paper is about played out so I will close for this time I Remain Ever Truly Yours Thos.J.Davis To Lucinda .M Davis
