Davis writes to Sis (Lucinda) noting that he is in much better health, although his injury will not be healed completely until the end of Summer. He details that the Regiment arrived last night after marching from Huntsville to Stevenson, and then riding train cars from Stevenson to Chattanooga. Davis writes that their Regiment will march on to Kingston, Georgia. He notes that he hopes to celebrate the capture of Richmond on the 4th but suspects it will take Commanding General Grant most of Summer to take it. Davis details that both Merrick Rogers and Jim Kingston are in the hospital. He also notes that Robert McMichael has not let his position get to his head and that he is still a good man. Davis continues by detailing that when the Regiment arrives in Kingston, Georgia, they will relieve a Division heading to the front. He notes that the Regiment will not come home until this campaign is over. Davis details that more and more wounded are being brought to the hospital here, which makes him uneasy. Davis writes that this year's campaign will help decide the results of the war, and if the war continues for several more years it will bring the country to ruin. He concludes by noting that he has not heard from Susan or Harriet.
