A.C. Pioneer Corps 3rd Div 15th [crossed out] [1864] Cartersville Ga. July 13th 1864 Dear Wife I again Endeavor to write you a Short letter to let you Know that I am in reasonable health and hope this may find you in good health I have not rec'd any letters from [crossed out word] you since I wrote to you on the 11th [illegible] while at Kingston: I Expected several letters that I did not get I think that I had several letters Burned on the Trains that the Rebels lately Destroyed for us the last letter I rec'd from you was dated June 19th & 22nd and letters have from Wis been rec'd here written ^ as late as the 6th inst: we left Kingston last Tuesday and come to this place this is 14 miles south of Kingston and on the Etowah River Cartersville is 24 miles from Marietta and 47, miles from Atlanta; the 18th went on to a Station Seven miles South of here and will probably remain there for some time our Division Generals Headquarters are at this place and the [illegible] will probably remain here until the Div'n again moves; we hear nothing of unusual note from the front for a few days only Sherman is Slowly driving the Rebs and we look 'ere long to hear that he has possession of Atlanta The weather continues pleasent for this climate but rather warmer than a week ago this is a verry rough rugged and rocky country and what farms there are: are deserted and left and Trampled under the feet of our Army and the fensing destroyed; we have verry good water here this is a great country for Blackberries they are now ripe and we have had all we could use ever since we left Chattanooga we find more apple Orcheds in Ga than we seen in Miss or [illegible] we have plenty green apples to cook and we get some that are ripe which make a verry good change with our army rations I shall not attempt to write alarge letter to day but I will try and write often So you will know where I am.
