Davis writes Lucinda detailing that he is in good health. He notes that he went out foraging to cut oats for the mules and that it was his first time harvesting in the South. Davis writes that the 18th Regiment is stationed on the railroad 8 miles south. He details that he received a letter from Louisa and that all are well but scared due to smallpox being in the area. Davis writes that today is his birthday and that he would very much like Lucinda to send her picture. He also notes that a report in the Chattanooga newspaper claimed Atlanta was taken with 15,000 prisoners, however he has yet to determine if this is true. Davis details that he made some beer, however he can't get drunk off of it, and he concludes by writing that he received Clara Wilson's letter.
