No 4 Pioneer Corps 3rd Div 15th A.C__ Cartersville Ga Aug 15th 1864 Dear Wife ___ I sit down this morning to write you a Short letter to let you know that I am as well as usual hoping this may find you well I have not Rec'd a letter from you since I wrote before the last one Rec'd from you was dated July 26 & 27th but I think I will get another one to day or tomorrow. The weather has been quite warm for three or four days which makes the boys feel quite lazy. So far as working is concerned, we Still continue to have Showers every day or two; I went down to the Reg t last Wednesday and came back on friday: the boys are all well Except Sam Moore and George Rogers. George is cripple up. with the Rheumatism but he is not in the Hospital. The Company does not seem to be verry proud of their recruits So far as the Rogers boys are concerned: Jim Ringston is nursing in the Hospital at Rome he wants to come back to the Company Alvin Caulkins is well and hearty he is considerable larger than I am he weighs about 170 lbs: Robt Mc is in good health and seems to be En joying well in the dignity of Capt, This is however a mutch healthier country than Miss or La, for our Div is in mutch better health now than they were a year ago ____ I rec'd a letter from Louisa Wagner dated July 29th She did not write mutch news only the folks were as well as usual: We had a little Excitement here yesterday there was 1500 Rebel Cavalry reported about 18 miles from here who intended to try and take this place and tear up the R.R. we all had our cartrage Boxes filled up with the needful and was ready for them but they did not come; we have a force of Cavalry now out in persuit of them. all is again quiet this morning; Affairs at the front Remain about the Same as when I last wrote you; fighting and Skirmishing is going on every day to a greater or less Extent: I will not write a long letter when to day I will write again I ^ Receive a letter from you So be a good Girl and dont Cry and I will bring you some candy Please to Write Soon.
