Davis writes to Lucinda noting he is in his usual health and spirits. He details that the reason he has not received letters from her is because Rebel raiders attacked the railroad in several locations and stopped the trains from running for several days. Davis further notes that the Rebels took two Companies of the 17th Iowa as prisoners but released them after commandeering their firearms. He details that although the railroad has resumed operation he has still received no mail. He notes that Ed Rogers received a letter from Joe Johnson. Davis writes that Officer Farragut's forces gained possession of some of the Rebel forts around Atlanta and that heavy fighting has continued.
