Davis writes to Lucinda noting that they have received no through mail from the North since the last time he wrote. He details that the Rebel Cavalry has interrupted the railroad preventing them from receiving mail for several days. Davis writes that he did receive a letter from David Ingersoll's wife which stated that Charlie is going to school and one of her brothers was wounded near Atlanta. Davis continues by noting that one of the old neighbor boys was killed, and that the Great Guerrilla Raider John Morgan was killed in Greenville, Tennessee. Davis writes that over a thousand Rebel prisoners have passed through Cartersville on their way to Chattanooga. He notes that the Regiment has not returned, and that he suspects they are still in Tennessee. In news from the front, Davis details that part of General Sherman's Army returned to Atlanta while the other part is searching for Confederate General Hood. Davis notes that there is little talk of furlough anymore and he suspects they will be held until their time is out. He writes that he is anxious to see Lucinda and his baby and imagines that Silvie must be quite the child getting into mischief. Davis concludes by stating that he longs to receive a Northern newspaper.
