No. 9 Pioneer Corps 3rd Div 15th A.C. Cartersville Ga Sept 15th 1864 Dear Lucinda This pleasent morning I take up my quill to write you a Short letter in answer to two letters that I Rec'd this week; one was dated Aug 25 and the other Sept 1st Your letters begin to come through more regularly again and I hope the mail may not be Interrupted again this fall when you dont get letters from me you may be Sure that the fault is in the mail and not in me for I Average more than a letter a week but I Supose you have not Rec'd my letters Regularly of late on account of Weelers Raid in our Rear: All military arrangements are quiet in front: there will probably be no fighting in front for Sometime to come: the Army will probably be Reorgansisd for the fall campaign: The Regt has not returned yet but I think it will be back here in a few days they are near Winchester Tenn: Ed Rogers is in the Pioneer Corps with me I see him every day he dont get many letters from Elias: You say the Copperheads are making boasts and threats what they mean to do I know there is considerable excitement in the North in Refereance to political matters but I apprehend no Serious war in the North: I think those Sneaking peace men and Copperheads are too cowardly to fight for anything they may talk Saucy to a woman or a verry Old man or a Small boy but they wont fight; for if they were brave enough to fight at all they would fight for an honorable cause: Peaceism in my Opinion is only a pretence for an Excuse to stay at home: I am but little afraid of Copperheads: There is but verry few soldiers that I have talked with say they are going to Support little Mc they are most all going for Old Abe & Andy the Rail Splitter and Tailor I have not Rec'd many letters lately I dont write as mutch as I used to Susan Wilson has discontinued writing to me So I dont write any more to her: Our Regt will probably go home between now and Christmas but they have no Orders yet __ So I hardly think anything more about it Only as somebody [illegible] I have no more news to write to day So good bye from Your Boy T.J.
