Davis writes Lucinda informing her that he is in his usual health. He notes that they are still in Cartersville and that nothing of importance has happened. Davis details that the Regiment has still not returned from Tennessee, but he suspects that when they do they will be able to go home on furlough. He writes that as the Atlanta Campaign has concluded, the army will rest and prepare for the fall campaign. In regards to politics, Davis believes he will vote for President Lincoln again in part because he feels the war should both start and end under him. Davis writes that he went to the wedding of a bridegroom from the 26th Missouri Regiment and a Native Black Woods Georgian Bride. He details that he pities the man bringing a Southern woman home when there are so many nice girls in the North, although he notes that he doesn't think a man who marries a Southerner is worthy of a good woman. Davis concludes by writing that many girls have misplaced confidence in soldiers.
