No. 12. Pioneer Corps 3rd Div 15th A.C. Cartersville Ga Oct 4th 1864 Dear Wife I again attempt to to write you a short letter to inform you that I am in as good health as usual truly hoping that this may find you well I have Rec'd no letter from you Since I last wrote Oh yes I did too I rec'd one dated Aug 10th containg Mr Keyes death and also the story of Cutter the Spy which is a verry good Story: well Lucinda we are Still at Cartersville and it is dificult to Say how long we will remain here. – in my last letter I wrote you that we Expected soon to go home on furloughs but the Rebels are again Interrupting the Railroads So that it may be mutch longer now before we start than I Expected: It is a verry disagreeable thing to be Kept in Such Suspence Expecting to go every few weeks and then to be disapointed every time: If Knew we was not going I would not trouble my head about it: I hope now that they will not let us go until my old time is out and then they they will have a good time getting me back here again: not that I wish to do anything wrong but I dont mutch fancy a bargain that is all on one side and myself one of the party and have nothing to say in it: you must not think that I am disspirited for I Keep perfectly cool but hereafter I mean to look more after No One as that is every mans Business: we have had no mail for over a week the last letter I rec'd from you was written Sept 10th that is the latest date: and perhaps it may be sometime before the mail will again become Regular when I fail to get mail Regular And it is two or three weeks before I get a letter I become more Anxious to go home but when I get letters regularly from home I feel more Satisfied. I dont wish you to get uneasy about me but Keep perfectly easy and I will be along home to see you after a while __________ I have no news to write to day I will look for a letter from you the next mail that comes So be a good Girl I Remain your anxious Husband T.J.Davis To L.M. Two years ago today was fought the second day Battle at Corinth and the weather was mutch warmer then than it is today and the dead on the battlefield produced the worst oder I ever Smelled it turned me quite sick several times Today is alternate sun shine and rain it has rained nearly every day for over a week TJ,D
