Davis writes to Lucinda acknowledging her Diphtheria and wishing her a fast recovery. He notes that his own health is fine and that this was the first mail he received in a week due to the destroyed railroad. Davis details that he received a letter from Brother William stating he arrived home safely. He also notes that he received letters from Sister Elisabeth, who is struggling with her eyesight, and David Ingersoll. Davis writes that all in the Regiment are well, although they have heard nothing from the three companies that were taken prisoner. He details that the Regiment is still in Allatoona and that there is still no news of a furlough. Davis writes that he and the other men are frustrated that their rights are not being considered, which leads him into a discussion of morals, religion, and God. The letter is continued on October 22. Davis details that orders have been put into place to send all sick and convalescent men to the hospital while the remaining men prepare to march. He notes that there is much talk about the election among the men, and a majority of the soldiers plan to vote for President Lincoln. Davis writes that Colonel Bouck went home and is now running for Congress. He concludes by noting that he believes the reelection of Lincoln will end the war.
