Davis writes to Lucinda noting that his health is good. He explains that they have been expecting to march for several weeks, although no preparations to leave have been made. Davis details that Harrison Sayers visited from the Regiment, and that all the boys are well. Davis also notes that the Regiment expects to be paid soon, and that there is talk of furlough. Davis writes that he would rather be kept till his old time is out and then be discharged, as he cannot see how they can legally hold him as a Veteran member. He acknowledges that Silvie got ahold of his picture, and details that he thought she would want to see him since it has been so long. Davis writes that he has been doing some of his own cooking, and that persimmons and pumpkins are in season, although they receive the occasional sweet potatoes and fresh pork. Davis concludes by noting that Ed Rogers is still recovering.
