Wis Jan 2nd 1865 Dear Wife Well New Years day has past and I will write you a few lines to inform you that we are Still here: The Regt has not more than half came in yet but probably the most of them will be in to night, we will probably not leave here before Wednesday I wrote you a letter last Friday but I have not Rec'd any from you yet though I will Expect one before we leave here There is tolerable good Sleighing here [crossed out] [and] and the Sporting Gentry Seem to be enjoying it verry well The weather is pleasent for winter. The folks Say it is not So cold as it was last Winter Just as I finished writing the other Side of this Sheet, one of the Boys came in from the Post Office with a letter from you You may guess I was glad to get it for I was Anxious to hear how you got through. Your letter was written on the 30 the Same day I wrote to you. and you will probably get my letter to day. I am verry glad that you got through all right Tell Hariet to write for I believe I wrote last. Bill Cleary has not come yet Probably his getting Married has gone back on him Robt Mc Said that Henry Johnson was arrested before he came away. he was arested for Desertion and also for Stealing, he will probably have a pretty Rough time of it When you write again Direct as before for if we are gone the letter will follow the Regt We will go to Nashville when we leave here I have no News to write to day day Please write soon I Remain Yours As Ever Thos.J.Davis L.M Davis P S Excuse a bad pen
