Corinth Miss June 23rd 1862 Dear Wife I again Sit down to write you a few lines by way of Answering your letter Dated June 5th which I Rec,d last week It found me well I hope this will find you in good health, I Recd, 4 Other letters the Same time I Rec,d yours two of them was from Sister Elisabeth and one was from Brother Isaac and the other was from Brother William; Isaac is Still in the hospital in Leavenworth Kans as he wrote that he Expected to get his discharge Soon on account of his lame leg William is Down here at Corinth or near it I did not know he was here until I got his letter [crossed out]I he is about four miles from where we are camped; I got a pass from the Colonel day before yester- day and went to See him he is well and hearty I had not seen him for nearly three years before. we are camped in the Same place we was when I wrote you last the weather is quite warm here in the day time, but the nights are cool and nice So that a person can Sleep comfortable .... Elisabeth wrote that all of our folks in Illinois was well; She wrote to me Sometime ago for me to tell you to write to her I wrote Back to her and told her to write to you first and I I would Insure you to answer [crossed out]it her letters She has not Said anything about it in her letters lately. Mr Bixby has been Sick for Sometime and was Sent one away on a boat to Some ^ of the gen,l Hospitals Some two or three weeks ago Elijah Forsyth was verry Sick when he was taken away from here to the General Hospital the Doctors Said [crossed out] [illegible] he had a hard chance to Recover; I have not heard from Wal,t Odel Since I wrote to you before What thare is left of Our Company at the present are in good health we have now |33|, men in our company and they have all been Reported well for three or four days; we have not made out a morning Report without having more or less Sick Since I come back to Milwaukee from my furlough untill now I hope the Soldiers will Remain healthy those that are now well at least for I am tired of Seeing walking Ghosts in the Army Care and temperance in Diet [crossed out] [illegible] is verry Esential for the health of the Soldiers here Mr Burnett Started home last friday morning he will Stop in Illinois and go up home with Sent his wife; I ^ that Note with him that I have; on Johnson, Baker, & Whitney, I. also Sent my Carpet Sack and my Watch and Forty Dollars in money [crossed out] [illegible] I am obliged for the paper and Stamp you Sent me though you need not Send any more paper for I can get plenty of that here now T Here is all kinds of predictions afloat here ^ in Referance to the probable Duration of the war Some think that the war will be over in thirty days Some Say peace will be declared in Sixty days and Some think the war will continue three years; my paper is out and I must close So Good Bye Sis write Soon T.J.
