     Thursday Evening Jany 26th 65 
 
Dear Wife 
This evening Still finds us in 
Cinti and no better prospect of 
getting way from here than when 
I last wrote. The weather is very 
cold to day the Mercury has been 
below Zero all day with a Keen 
wind and heavy ice in the River 
So heavy that boats are not runing 
to day. We will probably have to Stay 
here until we can get Transportation 
to New York on the Cars and there is 
about 25000 Troops that will probably 
go before we will I hope however that we 
may go soon as it is too cold here to soldier 
in the winter time We have not Recd  
any mail Since we left Nashville
all our mail I Supose has been 
Sent to Savanah where we are 
expected to go there is some talk of 
us going out to camp Denison to 
wait until we can leave on the cars 
but it is hard to tell what we will do 
and when we will do it. We are Still on 
board the Boat that we came from 
Nashville on and we are piled on so 
thick that we [crossed out word] cannot all cook or 
Keep warm and the Boys in the Reg't 
are nearly all Straped for money 
Officers [crossed out] [al] and all So that they cannot 
get on meny benders as many of them 
would like to do  . I have had something 
like a [crossed out] [hun] hundred and seventeen 
aplications to borrow money since 
we left Milwaukee but I intend to 
Keep Enough for my own use though 
I have loaned considerable to the Boys 
and I have bought three Boxes of 
Tobacco and Sold to them on credit
I Supose that you have Rec'd the 
first letter I wrote since we came here 
before this time. I wish you to write 
to me as soon as you get this and 
Direct your letter to Cincinnati Ohio 
dont put on the Co or Regt    and perhaps 
I will get it before we leave here . ___ 
I have been through the City considerable 
Since we came here Cincinnati is a 
larger City than Chicago and there is 
quite a government Business passes 
through this city but I think Chicago 
Overtake Cincinati in population and 
in wealth in a few years. 
I will not write mutch to day and 
I will hope for an answer from you 
before we leave here   .So be a Good 
Girl and write often
